Tough Mudder is this weekend in Somerset
This week crews are working to transform the Somerset Amphitheater and other areas around Somerset into a muddy mess for the grueling Tough Mudder event this Saturday and Sunday, May 19-20.
According to its website, Tough Mudder is probably the toughest event on the planet.
"Tough Mudder is not your average lame mud run or spirit-crushing 'endurance' road race. Our 10-12 mile obstacle courses are designed by British Special Forces to test all-around strength, stamina, mental grit and camaraderie," the website claims.
Among the 29 obstacles are: The Trenches, full of thick mud; Boa constrictor, crawling through pathways of pipes; multiple 12-foot high Berlin walls; The Firewalker, a hot run through kerosene soaked straw; and Electroshock Therapy, a sprint through a field of live wires, some of which carry a 10,000 volt shock.
Individuals not interested in participating, but interested in watching the muddy mayhem, can purchase spectator tickets. Tickets are available online at http://toughmudder.com/events/twincities/ for $20 until Friday, May 18. Spectator tickets will be sold for $40 onsite on Saturday and Sunday.
After finishing the course, participants are invited to the post party where there will be food, beer and a band.
Tough Mudder respect, costume and mullet or Mohawk awards will be presented to qualifying participants.
Those mudders wishing to commemorate their experience in ink can receive a voucher for a tattoo of the Tough Mudder logo, which is redeemable at a local tattoo parlor. Those who get the Tough Mudder tattoo will be given free entry to a Tough Mudder event of their choice. Tattoo vouchers are on a first come, first served basis.
There are no monetary prizes at the Tough Mudder. However, the top 5 percent of all finishers will qualify for the World's Toughest Mudder event.
