Photographer's work hits magazine cover
A New Richmond-based photographer has a high-profile picture on the front cover of a national magazine.
Beau Petersen, owner of BP Photography, was hired by America's Best Home Workshops to take pictures of a Hayward, Wis., hobbyist's wood shop. One picture is on the front of the magazine, while several others are featured inside with the cover story.
"When your picture is on the cover, it's a pretty big deal," he said.
Petersen said he took the pictures at John Kutyba's wood shop in November and the magazine hit the stands just last week. The magazine, which is a do-it-yourself publication for people who do woodworking as a hobby, is sold in such places as Menards and Home Depot.
Petersen opened his New Richmond photography business about seven years ago, after he was laid off from his job at Andersen Windows. He has since opened a satellite office in Hayward.
For the first three years of his business, he focused exclusively on wedding photography. He has since expanded into portraits and commercial work.
"It's nice to do commercial work," Petersen said. "It's something different."
When Petersen is hired for a job, he uses a mobile photography studio to capture people in their natural settings. He brings along lights and other equipment to enhance each shoot.
America's Best Home Workshops is a magazine of Meredith Corp., the same publisher that produces Better Homes and Gardens and Family Circle.
