City selects new taxi service
Your car won't start and you can't find a ride.
You don't have a license, but need to get somewhere.
You're elderly or disabled and struggle to get around town.
A new taxi company in New Richmond is here to help.
New Richmond Shared Ride Taxi will zoom into business on Jan. 1. They are the sole holders of the City's subsidized taxi contract.
New Richmond Shared Ride Taxi will is located behind Subway at 215 North Knowles Avenue, suite D. They can be reached at 715-246-2226.
The taxis will travel anywhere in the City limits for a flat rate. Ages 3 and older cost $3. The elderly and disabled have a $2.50 fare.
Drivers will be available from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Sundays the rides will be available from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The fleet is starting off small. There is one sedan and one minivan. The van is wheelchair accessible, manager Rob Mooney said.
Mooney said he expects business to pick up. Currently, about 11,000 taxi rides are taken in New Richmond each year.
"I expect we'll double that in a few years," Mooney said, crediting affordability and convenience.
New Richmond Shared Ride Taxi is owned by Top Hat Inc., which also owns River Falls Shared Ride.
Previously the City contracted with Pape Taxi and New Richmond Transport for the local ride service.
