Chamber serves up new breakfast idea

Russ Korpela, executive director of the New Richmond Chamber of Commerce, talked to the group about upcoming Chamber events.

What's better on a Friday morning than hot coffee, a light breakfast and some good conversation?

The New Richmond Area Chamber of Commerce started monthly "Chamber Coffee" events last Friday at the Chamber office. About 20 people were in attendance.

The event is an informal time for Chamber and non-Chamber members to network, said Russ Korpela, executive director.

"One of our goals is always to increase the value of a membership to the Chamber," Korpela explained. Other area chambers have had success with morning coffee sessions so the New Richmond group was inspired to give it a try, he said.

"We're excited about it," Korpela said.

During the free event, people can stop by the office for a cup of coffee, a roll and network with others. Those in attendance can also learn more about the Chamber and the benefits to members, Korpela said. People shouldn't feel obligated to stay for the entire hour.

A perk for attending is the chance to win a door prize, Korpela said. Each month a business sponsor will donate a prize of $50 or greater value, he said. During Friday's event four Minnesota Twins and Harlem Globetrotter tickets from The "New" Mix 105 were given to a lucky participant. Businesses can also sponsor the coffee and rolls; Family Fresh took the first month's duties.

The Chamber Coffee events will be on the third Friday of the month at the Chamber office, 245A S. Knowles Ave., from 8-9 a.m. There won't be Chamber Coffee during June, July and August, Korpela said.
