Consignment shop opens in New Richmond

Julie Smith, owner of Patina, changes the outfit on one of the mannequins, which they call Britney.

Local bargain hunters looking for reasonably-priced apparel can now shop at Patina, a consignment clothing store on Knowles Avenue.

Patina, 215 S. Knowles Ave., opened May 15 and sells gently worn, name brand clothes and accessories for men and women at a reduced cost.

"I decided to do a consignment clothing business because New Richmond just needs a place to shop for clothes that's affordable," owner Julie Smith said.

Smith said that the process for people who want to sell their clothes at the shop is relatively easy.

"I have a consignment contract that they sign," Smith said. "Everything splits 50-50, as your stuff sells you get a check."

All items stay on the floor for 90 days, after which the clothing owners can either donate them to the store or come and pick them up.

Patina joined both Apple Blossom Floral and Events and A Better Fit at their current location.

"It's great working with Julie," said Cathy Rivard, owner of Apple Blossom Floral and Events. "I think she brings something to the New Richmond area that was needed."

Apple Blossom Floral and Events does floral arrangements and helps plan weddings and events. A Better Fit does alterations, sewing machine repair and tuxedo rental.

"They were already here and I came in as a third business," Smith said.

According to Rivard, all three businesses work together well.

"With the clientele that is visiting, maybe someone is a future bride that is looking for floral, decorating needs," Rivard said.

Rivard also mentioned that having Patina at the front of the store is great because Smith is there to welcome and help customers.

"Julie is great greeting my customers and it is nice to have someone there when I am not at the store to give out my info," Rivard said.

Smith said that the community has had a very positive response to the store.

"So far everybody is really excited," she said.
