Dianna's Nails opens in New Richmond

Dianna's Nails opened in New Richmond this past March. It is owned by Phong Nghiem, right, and named after his girlfriend, Dianna Pham, center. Also pictured is employee Sandy Nguyen. Photo by Jackie Grumish.

After visiting a friend's nail salon in Hudson, Phong Nghiem discovered there was a need for nail salons in western Wisconsin. That's when the idea for Dianna's Nails was born.

"My friend said New Richmond was a good opportunity, so we came up here, drove around and found this building for lease," he said. "We worked out a pretty good deal and here we are."

Now housed in the former Computer Troubleshooters space at 228 Paperjack Drive, Suite 7, Nghiem said business has been steady.

While Nghiem doesn't have any experience doing nails, Dianna Pham, Nghiem's girlfriend and the woman whom the business is named after, and the two other women who work at the salon have at least five years of experience each.

"They're licensed manicurists in both Minnesota and Wisconsin," he said. "They've gone through the training."

All the employees at Dianna's Nails commute from the Twin Cities, Nghiem said.

"We drive 50 miles every day, but there's not a lot of competition here," he said.

New Richmond has only one other nail salon, not including the hair salons that offer limited nail services.

"So far we've gotten a lot of comments about our shellac (gel) system," he said. "We have a lot more colors than some of the others."

Dianna's Nails welcomes walk-ins; however, Nghiem said it's best to make an appointment if you can.

He said he's booked appointments well into September for wedding parties and the like.

"We've had a lot of group parties with six people all coming in together," he said. "It's a lot of fun then, they bring their own music and kind of take over."

Nghiem said he worked hard to make Dianna's welcoming to everyone and even offers free WiFi service for customers.

Dianna's Nails is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. To make an appointment, call 715-246-0030.
