Hammond Library Column: February is a great month to love your library
Wow, January just flew by and now we are looking at February, a great month to think about "loving" your library. Love is in the air and the library is just one more thing to love. We love our patrons, good books, great movies, and fun and educational programs!
Did you know that we love our patrons so much that we are a Fine Free Library! Yes, that means that any items you check out from the Hammond Community Library, if they are a day late, you will not be charged a fine for those items. You will still get a gentle reminder, an overdue notice, when you have items that are late, but you can rest assured that you will be fine free. Come in and see what your library is all about. Libraries are all about helping families be thrifty. With free books, movies, audiobooks, magazines, and so much more for checkout all free of charge—just takes a library card
Thursday, Jan. 25, at 6:30 p.m. STEM Night — For the month of January we will explore STEM activities that are winter-related. Grades 4K-seventh come and explore our winter-themed STEM activities.
Monday, Jan. 29, at 6 p.m. Book Speed Dating — Yes, you can "date" as many "dates" as you would like tonight. Enjoy refreshments and a little pampering as you meet your "dates" this evening.
Thursday, Feb. 1, at 6 p.m. Kevin Henkes-inspired storytime.
Saturday, Feb. 3, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Take your Child to the Library Day! Fun activities planned for a fun filled Saturday, drop in and check it out.
Monday, Feb. 5, from 6-8 p.m. LEGO Night — Come in an build castles, boats, houses, spacecraft, and so much more. The possibilities are endless!
Tuesday, Feb. 6, at 2 p.m. Chair-robics followed by coffee and conversation. A great program for low impact, seated movement.
Thursday, Feb. 8 at 6 p.m. Mercy Watson Story-time with stories being read by first grade SCC teacher, Jenny Cicha.
Thursday, Feb. 8, at 6 p.m. Valentine Craft Evening for ages 4 and older. Create your own Valentine Day cards, gifts.
Thursday, Feb. 8, from 6-8 p.m. Coloring and Dot-to-Dot night.
Tuesday, Feb. 13, at 6 p.m. Freezer Meals made simple! This fun, exciting evening is a way for you learn how to make your own freezer meals!
Thursday, Feb. 15, at 5:30 p.m. Let's Get Organized! Valerie Cade, professional organizer with Winnow & Spruce Organizing will share the psychological benefits of getting organized, how to overcome the organizing hurdles that stop us in our tracks, how to decide what to keep and clever, creative ways to enjoy what we love.
Thursday, Feb. 15, at 7 p.m. Cozy Book Club. Read a cozy mystery with a theme that centers around Chocolate and then come and talk about your cozy mystery with the group. What a yummy choice for the month!
Thursday, Feb. 15, at 6 p.m. Love is in the air! Enjoy spending time together as a family as you enjoy stories, games and art tonight at the library.
Tuesday, Feb. 20, at 2 p.m. Trivia! Test your trivia knowledge and have a chance at several prizes!
Thursday, Feb. 22, at 6:30 p.m. STEM Night for grades 4K-7th. Feb. theme is ART STEM.
Thursday, Feb. 22, at 6 p.m. Karma Wilson inspired story-time.
Tuesday, Feb. 27, at 6 p.m. Vintage Library Party! An evening that will be filled with trivia, readings from vintage popular and classic books, plus food and drink inspired by the books we all love and adore.
