The St. Croix County Historical Society will present its annual Victorian Christmas Night on Friday, Dec. 5, from 6-8 p.m., with a tour of the Octagon House Museum and the Phipps Inn Bed and Breakfast. Admission is $9 for adults, $3 for students ages 13-19, and $2 for children 12 and under. Tickets will be available at the Octagon House (No advance sales).
The Octagon House at 1004 Third Street was built in 1855 for the John Shaw Moffat family. Mr. Moffat was a lawyer and St. Croix County judge. Four generations of the Moffat-Hughes family lived in the house before it became a museum in 1964.
On the Victorian Christmas Night visitors can see the Octagon House Museum in its holiday splendor by the glow of lamplight. Refreshments will be served in the Carriage House and the Gift Shop will be open for Christmas shopping.
Also tour the main level of the Phipps Inn at 1005 Third Street, built in 1884 for local railroad and lumber man William H. Phipps. The beautifully decorated Victorian mansion is now a Bed and Breakfast operated by Mary Ellen and Richard Cox.
Octagon House Museum will be open for walk-in tours in December on the weekends before Christmas with a theme of “A Picture Perfect Christmas.” The Museum and Gift Shop hours are Saturdays and Sundays from 12-4:30 p.m.
