Hazel Mackin Public Library: Support the Holiday Angels program
Written by Krissa Coleman, executive director of the Hazel Mackin Community Library in Roberts
The library is happy to be partnering with the Holiday Angels for this Easter season.
We have a display of Easter baskets that you can register to try to win. There are six adorable baskets for different age groups: ages 2-4, 5-7 and 8 and up.
Drawings will take place Saturday, April 8, after Lego Club.
The Holiday Angels is a program for children living in the SCC School District whose families are experiencing financial struggles. This program is sponsored by the Lions Club of Roberts and Hammond.
Food for Fines: During the month of April bring in any non-perishable food item to receive $1 off of your fines. One item = $1 off. It's a win-win. You can pay down any fines you might have and food shelves will be stocked for the upcoming summer months. If you don't have any fines and still want to participate, we would love to have you donate your food items.
Story Time: Story times are 10:30-11:15 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.
April 3 and 5 will be the Five Senses; April 10 and 12 will be on weather; and April 17 and 19 will be Easter.
S.T.E.M. 5-6 p.m. Tuesday, April 4. This month we will be learning about paper and how to make it. This program is for students in grades 4-7. Please sign up at the circulation desk so can make sure we have enough supplies.
Lego Club: 10:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 8.
Movie matinee: 1 p.m. Monday, April 10. We will be showing"Moana," PG; popcorn will be supplied.
Poetry Creation Station: April 10-13. Stop by the library to create your own poetry using words you pull from a basket. We will also have Black Out Poetry available to make.
Tech Time: 3:30-5:45 p.m. Monday, April 17. Please note the different time for this month. We only have a couple spots left for this month, so call the library and reserve your 30 minutes with Barb.
Backyard bird habitat program: 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 18. More information to come.
Intro to crochet class: This is a two-part class, 4:30-6 p.m. April 20 and 27. Please call the library to reserve your spot, 715-749-3849. This class is for anyone eight years and older. We have the supply list at the desk for what is needed, depending on which project you choose to do — scarf, cowl or washcloth. Participants will be learning how to read a pattern, chaining, single crochet and double crochet. This class is filling up incredibly fast, so don't wait to register.
For those of you who wanted to attend the knitting class, but the class was full — we will be offering another two-part class in June. Keep watch for information to come.
Senior coffee and cookies/ice cream: Every Friday at 10 a.m., except Friday, April 14. Stop by for some conversation, games, or just a free cup of coffee, hot chocolate, or tea.
Strong senior chair exercise: This program is from 1-2 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Come on in and join the movement group. This program will follow a DVD designed to help develop strength and enhance ability to function in daily life, improving stability, balance, and mobility. Feel free to bring small hand weights for a tougher workout.
The parking lot fundraiser continues and the library board is working toward raising $205,000 to pay off the extended lot and prepare the way for pavement. Your gift would help us provide safe parking for those who attend our growing programs.
