New Richmond Fire & Rescue hosts 8th Annual Chili Feed
Saturday, April 8, the New Richmond Fire Department will open its doors at 4 p.m. for its eighth annual Chili Feed fundraiser. Everyone is invited. Luckily, it is held at the Fire Hall so there will be plenty of water available to help extinguish any mouths set on fire by particularly spicy chili entries. A silent auction and raffles will accompany the feeding frenzy. Money raised will be put toward advanced training and the purchase of safety and communications gear for the department.
The fee to enter your secret recipe is $15 and all entries must be called in to 715-243-0429, before noon, Friday, April 7. Entries will be limited to the first 25 callers.
Contestants are asked to have their chili at the Fire Hall no later than 3 p.m. Please prepare 1 gallon of chili and deliver it in a crock-pot. Extensions cords will be provided. Entries will be divided into three categories: hot, medium and mild.
A distinguished panel of judges will pit their taste buds against the chili entries starting at 3:30 p.m. Cash prizes and plaques will be awarded in each category with an additional prestigious "Judge's Choice Award" going to the entry incorporating the most unusual ingredients and creativity.
Kids are invited to meet fire and rescue personnel and explore the fire trucks. Free chili, cheese, crackers, hot dogs, milk and desserts will be served from 4—8 p.m. Pop and beer will be available for purchase. Free-will donations are encouraged.
Raffle tickets can be purchased from firefighters or on the day of the event. A $1,000 cash prize will be drawn from the raffles. Tickets are $5 each or five tickets for $20. The drawings will be held at 8 p.m. You do not need to be present to win.
Strap on the feedbag and get on down to the Fire Hall, 106 S. Arch Ave., this Saturday to put away a little chili for our first responders.
