NRPD to host inaugural K-9 Classic
The inaugural K-9 Classic will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 13 starting at the New Richmond Police Station. The event is a 2-mile fun run/walk with your dog, with proceeds going to support the New Richmond Police Department K-9 Unit.
"The idea behind this was to try a different way to get the public involved with the fundraiser," said NRPD Lt. Veronica Koehler. "There are a lot of different 5Ks and 10Ks in the city, but they don't necessarily say you can bring your dog along on the fun run."
Registration is $20 for adults and $10 for kids 12 and under. Registration includes an NRPD bandana, dog treat, dog toy and refreshments at the finish line.
"It will be a mapped out trail that goes through the industrial park, then up the trail behind Phillips and towards WITC....to Sixth Street and then it turns around and comes back," Koehler said. "Dogs are welcome to come. You don't have to have a dog with you to participate, but they are welcome. It is a dog focused event/fundraiser."
Register early at sites.google.com/view/nrpdk9classic or the day of the event. A link to information on the K-9 Classic can also be found on the New Richmond Police Department page on the City of New Richmond website.
"The fund as a whole is going well. We are at just under $30,000 and we have some other events throughout the summer, including the Legion's spaghetti feed and a cookout we will be hosting in June here at the police station," Koehler said.
There will be prizes for the first place finisher (with their dog) and the best dressed dog.
