Accident snarls traffic during Osceola Wheels & Wings
A four-vehicle accident in Osceola during the community's big annual Community Fair and Wheels and Wings weekend put a bit of a damper on things.
Three people were injured in the chain-reaction crash, which occured in the northbound lane of Highway 35, coming down the big hill into the downtown. The accident occurred at around 10:22 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10.
According to the Osceola Police report, a 2001 Ford Sprot Trac, driven by Derek Evenson, 24, of Osceola slammed into the rear of a car driven by Jonathan Cumpton, 63, of Roberts. The truck came to rest on top of Cumpton's vehicle.
Cumpton was transported to the hospital for injuries sustained in the crash, while Evenson was uninjured.
Evenson told police that, as he crested the hill coming into Osceola, he looked down to plug in his cell phone. When he looked up, he noticed that traffic was stopped in front of him but he could not stop in time.
Two other vehicles, which were stopped in front of Cumpton's car, were also involved in the crash. A 2007 Chevy Silverado, driven by Michael Martin, 52, Amery, received moderate damage but the driver was not injured.
A 1995 Olds Regency driven by Ronald Lambert, 67, Dresser, was at the front of the chain-reaction crash and sustained some damage. Ronald Lambert and his passenger, Marjorie Lambert, 76, were transported to the hospital for observation. A second passenger in the Lambert vehicle, Stacy Wagner, 32, was not injured.
