A low pressure system will move across western Minnesota this morning and progress into the Great Lakes by Sunday morning. Intermittent snow early this morning will give way to steady snow by late morning and the snow will be heavy at times into this evening.

Total snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches is expected by late Sunday, with most of the snow occurring today and this evening. The greatest amounts are expected along and east of the

Mississippi River. Strong northwest winds will develop by this evening and persist into Sunday causing considerable blowing and drifting snow.

Another round of bitterly cold air and dangerous wind chills is expected to arrive later Sunday.

A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow along with blowing and drifting snow are forecast, which will make travel dangerous. Only travel if absolutely necessary. If you must travel keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
