When St. Croix Central senior Rachel Anderson scored the 1,000th point of her varsity career, she had no idea she had reached the milestone.

For Anderson, reaching this destination wasn't the important part. It was just a benefit of the daily work ethic that has made her one of the most prolific players in St. Croix Central history.

Anderson, the daughter of Greg and Gloria Anderson, has started since her freshman season. Ever since, she's been a fixture in the Dunn-St. Croix Conference leaders in scoring, rebounding and shooting percentage. She's been a warrior in the center of the lane for the Panthers, usually facing double-teams or more as opponents try to shut down her scoring.

Central coach Shannon Berg said she quickly learned that she could rely on Anderson, no matter the situation.

"Every day in practice, in every game, I know what I'm going to get from her," Berg said. "It seems like she was built to be a basketball player."

Anderson scored point number 1,000 early in a game at Pepin on Jan. 28. Berg then called a timeout and had the Pepin announcer read a paragraph honoring Anderson. Anderson was so involved in the game Berg had to get her to listen to the announcement to find out she was being honored.

In true form, Anderson responded to the honor by only playing better. She scorched Pepin that night for a career-high 34 points.

Anderson also has eclipsed the 500-rebound milestone in her career. She is planning on attending UW-Stout, but said she is planning on concentrating on her studies in college and likely won't play basketball.
