Anne Mary Thompson, 70
Anne Mary Thompson was born on June 23, 1944 at St. Paul, Minnesota.
She was the fifth of eleven children born to Leon Michael and Evelyn Mary (Miller) Parenteau. Anne grew up in North St. Paul, Minnesota and graduated from North High in 1962.
On December 10, 1963 at the Little Brown Church in the Vale, Nashua, Iowa, she married William John Thompson. They began their married life working the Thompson family farm just north of Deer Park, Wisconsin. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2013. The first two of their three daughters, Christine and Michele, were born during their time on the farm and Anne worked briefly at Fabri-tek in Amery, Wisconsin. In 1967 the working end of the farm business was sold and Anne and Bill moved to St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin where she was a stay-at-home mom. The young family soon moved to Clear Lake, Wisconsin and in 1969 they struck out on their own and formed Bill's Pump Repair (the name was later changed to Bill's Pump Service). Anne was the office manager, bookkeeper, accounts receivable/payable and often donned her coveralls and Red Wing work boots and helped Bill out on the job. In 1970 they bought the east 40 acres of farm land from Bill's mother and continued their operation there. In 1971 their third daughter, Jennifer, was born. In September of 2000 they sold the business to their daughter Christine.
Anne loved working with children and besides raising their girls and running the office, Anne found time to be a Girl Scout leader, Youth Softball Coach, Sunday School teacher and a "Band Aide" with the Amery High School Marching Band. Uniforms for the band's Color Guard, wedding dresses for her girls, and baptismal gowns for two of her grandchildren were just a few items among Anne's sewing projects.
One of her favorite pastimes was, as she called it, "Digging up family bones". Her genealogy studies took her to Canada and Ireland where she found family records and ancestral homes.
After selling their business, Anne, at age 56, went to school at WITC in New Richmond, Wis. where in 2002 (forty years after high school graduation) she received her 2-year Administrative Assistant Associate Degree. While studying she worked in the Community Education department at WITC and after graduation she went to work at J.A. Counter & Associates in New Richmond where she was employed for 4-1/2 years when a minor heart attack caused her to resign. She later went to work as Parish Secretary at St. Joseph Catholic Church until May of 2011. In December of 2011 Anne fulfilled her dream of becoming a member of the Red Hat Society where she enjoyed many happy hours with her fellow "Sassy and Radiant Red Hatters".
After a year-long battle with Small Cell Lung Cancer, Anne died peacefully on July 1, at Amery Regional Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Louis, Anthony, Joseph, son-in-law Brad Walker, and niece Toni Ann Parenteau.
She is survived by her husband Bill, her daughters, Christine Walker of Star Prairie, Wis., Michele (Jim) Miller of Hovland, Minn. and Jennifer Thompson (Troy Jones) of Eagan, Minn.; nine grandchildren including Eli (Jennifer Lieffring) and Johnathan Walker, Sarah Ashby, Hannah Erickson, Jackson (Hannah Barker), Maria, and Luke Nickolay, James Miller, and William Plunkett; and two great grandchildren, April and Annabelle Walker; seven siblings, many nieces and nephews and friends.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 6 from Williamson ~ White Funeral Home in Amery and 1 hour prior to services at the church. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 7, at Amery Free Lutheran Church. Interment will be at the Amery Cemetery.
