Area Scout gains Silver Award with horse cards
Meghan Vondriska, a Cadette in Roberts/Hammond Girl Scout Troop 50415, received her Silver Award at an outdoor Girl Scout Ceremony on Oct. 17.
Vondriska made horse medical/stable cards for horse owners in the area. She went to local businesses to get free printing and laminating of the cards.
Each card contains important information about an owner's horse, including space for the horse owner's phone number, vet and farrier information, as well as any special needs or medical conditions of the owner's horse.
The card also has tips on what to look for and do for horse colic and lameness. It also shows how to find and measure a horse's vital signs and how to tie a quick release knot.
The Hudson/Roberts Scout went to various horse organizations to advocate the importance of quality care and safety of horses and to promote her medical cards. Free will donations were accepted for the cards.
Vondriska plans to donate the money to a Minnesota horse rescue organization.
The Silver Award is the highest honor bestowed upon a Cadette level Scout.
