The Phipps Children’s Theater will hold auditions for area students entering grades 7 through 9 for the fall production of “The Little Luncheonette of Terror,” with the book by Tim Kelly, music by Bill Francoeur, and lyrics by Francoeur and Steven Fendrich, on Monday and Tuesday, July 29 and 30, at 6 p.m. at The Phipps Center for the Arts. Callbacks will be held on Wednesday, July 31, at 6 p.m.

Terror and laughter reign when Mongo, a rock-eating creature from the center of the Earth, contacts young Pete Berserker, owner of Pete's Luncheonette. All the kids from high school hang out at Pete's, but they're no match for Mongo, who can control thoughts, cause havoc, and change his shape. Actually, Mongo is a walking bucket of toxic waste. He plans to conquer Earth by enrolling the kids in his personal army. First, however, he drains their brains of knowledge - that's why they have to read the entire Encyclopedia Britannica. Pete's girlfriend tells him, "With a little more experience you could be a genius." Pete takes the message to heart, ultimately sending the nasty Mongo back to his own turf.

All will be asked to read from the script, do some improvisation, and sing a few bars from a song which is not a pop music selection. Those auditioning should also bring a list of all conflicts they may have during the rehearsal period.

Rehearsals will be held Monday - Thursday, 6:15 - 9:15 p.m., during the month of August and Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 6:15 - 8:30 p.m., during the month of September, with extended times during the final week of rehearsal.

Ten performances will be given Oct. 3-13 on Thursdays and Fridays at 7 p.m., Saturdays at 2 and 7 p.m., as well as Sundays at 2 p.m. In addition, two student matinees are scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 8.
