Badger punter says his own pressure is hurting his game
University of Wisconsin freshman punter Brad Nortman says he's been putting too much pressure on himself and that's why his production has slipped, after he got off to a strong start.
Nortman, from Brookfield Central High School, averaged 50 yards in four punts in his first two games for the Badgers.
But now, he ranks ninth in Big Ten games with just under 40 net yards per kick. Last Saturday, Nortman had a 15-yard shank that resulted in a Penn State field goal.
Another of his kicks was too low, and Derrick Williams returned it 63 yards for a touchdown.
Nortman calls it a learning experience. Badgers' Assistant Charlie Partridge blames himself, saying he pressured Nortman to do well because field position would be huge against Penn State.
Partridge said he should have told his punter to just relax. He said Nortman still has his confidence. He'll have a chance to redeem himself on Saturday, when the 3-3 Badgers play at 4-3 Iowa.
