Baldwin hunter found dead in woods

A Baldwin man was found dead in the woods just after 8 p.m. Saturday night after his family became concerned when he failed to return from hunting, according to a St. Croix County Sheriff Department’s press release.

Mark Grognet, 54, of Baldwin, had gone hunting near the 500 block of County Road NN in the Town of Cady at 5 a.m. that morning. When he didn’t return after dark, and his family couldn’t reach him by cell phone, they became concerned, according to the press release.

Deputies found Grognet’s 2004 Chevrolet truck parked at his hunting location. Local EMS workers searched the area and found Grognet dead in the woods about 400 yards from his pickup truck.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, there were no signs of physical trauma and foul play is not suspected.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by United Fire and Rescue, Baldwin EMS, Spring Valley Fire, Woodville Police and the the St. Croix County Medical Examiner. The incident remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Department.
