Baldwin-Woodville wins state D-2 softball title in shutout

MADISON - Baldwin-Woodville made it clear without a doubt who the best in the state is in WIAA Division 2 softball.

The No. 1 ranked Blackhawks shutout Monroe 7-0 Saturday in the championship game of the WIAA State Softball Tournament held at Goodman Diamond on the University of Wisconsin campus.

Sophomore Abby Klopp was the winning pitcher. She struck out 11 batters and held the Cheesemakers, 21-8 overall, to just four hits. She also had two hits and two RBIs.

Heidi Hinz led B-W with two hits and RBIs at the plate. Katie Thompson and Hayley Noha also drove in runs for B-W.

The 'Hawks won their first ever state title in softball after finishing second last year. They wrap up the season with a 28-1 overall record.
