Benefit planned for SCC Coach Mike Fern
A benefit has been announced to help former St. Croix Central baseball and basketball Coach Mike Fern, who is battling brain cancer.
The benefit will be held on Sunday, July 14, at St. Croix Central High School. The benefit will be held from 1-7 p.m., with activities planned for family members of all ages.
Fern is one of the most successful coaches in St. Croix Central history. He coached the St. Croix Central baseball team to its first appearance in the WIAA State Baseball Championships in 2008. In 2010, he led the Panther boys basketball team to its first conference championship in 40 years.
A number of activities are scheduled to make this an all-day celebration. The day begins with a 5K walk/run. Registration for the race will be from 6:30-7:30 a.m. at the high school. The race will start at the school at 8 a.m. Anyone seeking more information on the race can contact Joan Forsythe at 715-781-5125. The race will end with a "victory lap for Mike" around the high school track.
The benefit will begin at 1 p.m. at the high school with a full range of activities for all ages planned. Two outstanding local bands, "Trigger Happy" and "Boondoggle" will be performing. A live auction will be one of the main events. Silent auctions and raffles will be held during the event. Food and kids games will be available, along with much more.
