After she heard about the April 30 fire that closed St. Croix Central Elementary School for the rest of the school year, Jennifer Kling wanted to help.

"I really felt for what all the teachers and kids would be going through," Kling said.

Kling said she decided to organize a benefit to raise money for SCC. The benefit, to be held Saturday, June 8, at The Outer Limits near New Richmond, will feature a silent auction and games for children, as well as food.

Kling said the auction items, which have all been donated, will include art pieces, vintage stained glass lamps, as well as gift certificates. Also included in the auction items is a guitar shaped like the St. Croix Central "SCC Strong" logo, made by Hammond man Matt Sweet, whose children attend St. Croix Central schools.

As of May 24, Kling said there were 50 items to be auctioned off.

Kling said she doesn't have a monetary goal for the benefit.

"I will be happy with whatever amount we're able to raise to help out with," Kling said. "We're just going to help them out in any way we can."

Kling said she has received a great deal of help from friends and other community volunteers in organizing the event. Kling said she was able to hold the benefit at The Outer Limits for free, as her husband is a manager there. The Outer Limits' owner will provide staffing to help the event run smoothly, although Kling said volunteers will be needed to run children's games.

"It's been more rewarding than I thought it could ever be," Kling said. "It has been time consuming, but it's been so worth it."

The event will run from 1 p.m. to approximately 6 p.m. June 8 at The Outer Limits in New Richmond.

Kling is still seeking volunteers and donations. For more information, contact Kling at 715-222-8579.
