Bernadette Lily (Smith) Mahlstedt, age 99, of River Falls died on Saturday, April 20, at the Lutheran Home.
She was born on Sept. 7, 1913, to Theophille and Marie (Proulx) Rivard in Somerset, Wis. Bernadette was one of 14 children, and she spent a lot of time helping to raise nieces and nephews. She was a hard-working, determined woman who loved old-time dancing, camping, and fishing. She enjoyed embroidery, crocheting, and word searches. Bernadette was a huge Minnesota Twins fan. She spent many hours in front of the TV watching or listening on the radio to the games and kept records of wins and losses and game scores.
Bernadette was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Roy Smith and William Mahlstedt; brothers Arthur, Joseph, Felix, Wilfred, George, and Raymond Rivard; sisters Sarah Meiterjean, Delia Parent, Angeline Larson, Alice Simon, Priscilla Armbruster, Florence Hammett, and Delima Petschauer; great-grandson Devan Dull; and great-granddaughter Beth Helders.
She is survived by her daughters, Dixie (Dave) Helders, Connie (Don) Gillis, and Sally (Harvey) Fields; grandchildren, Todd (Betty), Tom, and Tricia Dull, and Rodney Helders, Stacey (Matt) Helders-Pevan, and Kaelly Mahlstedt; great-grandchildren Desirae Dull, Max and Owen Pevan; great-great-grandson, Jayden Dull; brother-in-law Bob (Marlys) Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, at St. Bridget Catholic Church in River Falls with Father Gerald Harris officiating. Pallbearers will be her six grandchildren. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at St. Bridget Cemetery.
