Blood drive planned in Roberts
The Congregational United Church of Christ in Roberts will host an American Red Cross Blood Drive on Nov. 25 from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. The church is located at 1001 Birch Drive. To make an appointment for this drive, call 749-4221 or visit www.giveblood givelife.org.
The hustle and bustle of the holidays is here. As you make your lists of errands to run, food to cook and gifts to buy, the American Red Cross reminds eligible donors that they can help a patient in need in less than an hour.
"This holiday season, take a moment to reflect on your gift of good health and make an appointment to donate blood," said Geoff Kaufmann, CEO of the local Red Cross Blood Services region. "It may not cost anything, but your blood donation can give patients hope -- a simple thing that means so much to someone in need."
The blood supply is particularly vulnerable throughout the holiday season because donors are traveling to see family and friends. Winter weather can also affect the ability of eligible individuals to donate blood. Giving blood now can help ensure a sufficient blood supply throughout the season.
How to donate blood
Simply call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE (1-800-448-3543) or visit givebloodgivelife.org to make an appointment or for more information. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver's license, or two forms of identification are required at check-in.
Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental permission), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors younger than 19 years also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
