Board elects officers, approves air handler
At its May 6 board work session meeting, the New Richmond School District Board of Education held elections for board officers and board appointments, in addition to approving the hiring of new Starr Elementary Principal Daniel McGuire.
After the elections, the officers remained the same for all positions, with Rick Hinz staying on as board president, Paula Kolbeck being re-elected as vice president, Chris Skoglund being elected as school board clerk and Marty Wold remaining as the board’s treasurer. Marilyn Duerst once again volunteered to be the board’s CESA #11 representative, while Kolbeck remained the WASB rep.
Once the board got into the main portion of the meeting, it discussed the Community Commons, reviewed the Core Purpose, Core Values and Goals and gave its opinion on the School Facts Document, which outlines the capacities and number of students at each of the district's five schools as well as the square footage of each property.
Director of Fiscal and Building Operations Brian Johnston gave his preliminary review of the 2014-15 budget and outlined the changes from last year’s budget as well as an early look at the proposed budget for next school year. Along with Johnston’s budget review, District Administrator Jeff Moberg took the board through his ideas for 2014-15 staffing plans for the schools, and which positions were needed next year and would fit into the budget.
The board also approved the purchase of a rooftop air handler unit and condenser unit from Trane US Inc. for $31,579. Approval was also given by the board for the installation of the unit by Countryside Plumbing & Heating Inc. for a total cost of $180,717.
— The board approved the resignation of Administrative Assistant Mary Smasal and the resignation of girls varsity hockey coach Emily Dabrowski as part of the consent agenda.
