Canadian takes world snowmobile trophy at Eagle River
Brian Bewcyk of Winnepeg, Canada, won his second straight world title Sunday at the 46th annual World Championship Snowmobile Derby in Eagle River.
Bewcyk and his Ski-Doo survived three re-starts due to crashes and he led for all 25 laps around half-mile oval to claim his victory.
Dan Fenhaus of Wausau took second. Dustin Wahl of Greenbush, Minn., was third.
Two-time champion Gary Moyle of Houghton, Mich., collided with Wahl on lap-seven, and was taken to a hospital. His injuries were not disclosed. Wahl was also hurt, but he continued racing.
Chris Kafka of Stratford won the Pro-Open championship snow-cross race. He chased down Cory Davis of Alaska about halfway through the 15-lap final.
Davis took second and Derek Ellis of Prospect Heights, Ill., was third.
