Cell phone users in Waupaca County unplugged
Motorists traveling in Waupaca County, Wisconsin, beware.
The County Board, on a 26-1 vote, has instituted a $200 for any driver using anything other than a hands-free cell phone while driving.
Officials are encouraging motorists who want to talk on the phone to pull over and you can talk as long as they want.
The county ordinance carries a $75 fine. With court costs added in, the total tab comes $217.50. The new rules prohibit talking, dialing, answering, listening or text messaging that does not allow the user to keep both hands on the steering wheel.
People calling emergency services or using the phone while the vehicle is parked are exempt from the new fine.
There will be no signs posted at the county's borders warning motorists of the ordinance.
