Central boys, New Richmond girls perform well in 2008 State Cross Country Meet
The local teams performed quite well at the 2008 WIAA State Cross Country Championships in Wisconsin Rapids on Saturday.
St. Croix Central's boys cross country team made a strong showing in its initial appearance in a state cross country meet. The Panther boys tied for seventh out of 16 teams in the Division 2 boys state race.
New Richmond's girls took 11th place in the Division 2 girls state race. The Tigers moved up from their 14th place finish a year ago.
The Middle Border Conference was one of the strongest conferences in the Division 2 race. Kayla Wagner of Baldwin-Woodville placed second in the Division 2 race and Brea Tinney of Osceola finished fourth in the Division 2 race. Wagner and Tinney both led during different parts of the race. New Richmond senior McKenzie Kelly placed 28th in the Division 2 race.
