All families with children whose birthdays fall between Feb. 10, 2010, and Feb. 9, 2011, living in the New Richmond School District were invited to take part in the two-day Child Development Days event at the WITC New Richmond campus Nov. 7-8.

Children were encouraged to participate in a play setting where social, communication, motor and early learning skills were observed as part of the event. The children who participated were also given hearing and vision screenings. After going through the series of screenings, an interviewer met with the child and their parents to discuss any questions they might have about their child’s development.

The Child Development Days Model is an interagency collaborative effort designed to meet three specific goals: educate families concerning typical child growth and development; develop community awareness of resources available in the areas of education, child care, medical/health and family support services; and identify children that may need intervention services prior to school start.
