Chili feed organizers seek entries
The New Richmond Fire & Rescue Department is planning its fourth annual chili feed and chili cook-off fundraiser on Saturday, April 13, at the New Richmond Fire Hall.
According to Fire Chief Jim Vanderwyst, local residents can enter their home-made chili in the annual contest. Winners will be selected through a blind tasting by a panel of five judges.
In 2012, there were about 20 entries in the competition.
"We hope for another strong competition this year," Vanderwyst said.
The entry fee for the contest is $15, and each contestant is asked to prepare one gallon of chili. After the judging is complete, each chili will be offered for sampling to the attending public.
Entries should be at the fire hall by 3:30 p.m. that Saturday. Judging commences at 4 p.m.
Interested entrants should contact Vanderwyst at the fire station, 715-243-0429, to let him know they'll be competing.
Entries will be divided into hot, medium, and mild categories. Plaques and cash prizes ($50 for winners and $25 for runners-up) will be awarded in each category, as well as a special Judges' Choice Award for creativity or unusual ingredients.
The free chili for the public will run from 4-8 p.m. Complimentary chili, cheese, crackers, fixings, side dishes, hot dogs and desserts will be available. Pop, beer, and milk will be on sale.
There will be on-site raffle tickets, games, and a silent auction.
All proceeds will be used by the NRFD to help secure rescue training and equipment.
