Church Hill Block Party scheduled for Oct 1-2
It's no longer summer, so it is no longer called "Somerfest." But St. Anne's Church is continuing with its annual fundraiser, just at a different time of the year.
"In the summer there are so many people at the lake or on vacation, that we thought we would do better in the fall when there is nothing really going on," said Ann Erlitz, chairwoman of the event.
Rechristened "Church Hill Block Party" and slated for Saturday, Oct. 1, from 4-11 p.m. and Sunday, Oct 2, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m., it will still feature many of the same activities as previous years' Somerfests.
On Saturday, the band Arcades will provide music for street dancing. There will also be a beer garden, concessions and games.
Sunday will begin with a grilled chicken lunch available for purchase. The live auction, featuring a paddleboat, household and lawn and garden items, will start at 1 p.m.
There will also be games for all ages, a craft sale, book nook, bake sale, concessions, cake walk and farmer's market.
For those football fans, there will be a television broadcasting the Packer game.
The event ends at 4 p.m. with a raffle drawing. First prize is $1,000, second prize is $500, and third prize is $100.
"You don't have to be present to win, but you do have to buy a ticket," said Erlitz with a laugh.
The event will take place on the grounds of St. Anne's Church located at 139 Churchill Road in Somerset.
