VERDICT: Milberg acquitted on all charges

Clark County deputy pulls man from burning car

A Clark County sheriff's deputy has given a Willard man the greatest gift of all at Christmas - the gift of life. Dawn Jacobson pulled Donald Hoffman, 81, from his burning car Tuesday.

He was taken to a Marshfield hospital, and was later flown to the University of Wisconsin Burn Center in Madison where he was listed in stable condition at last word.

Jacobson responded to a report of a stranded car off Clark County Trunk H in the town of York. He was trapped when his seat belt got tangled up, smoke was filling the inside of the vehicle, and flames were burning on the passenger side.

The deputy's glove and jacket were singed while saving the man. Authorities said Hoffman drove about a half-mile off of H before his vehicle stopped, and they're not sure why.

Jacobson said she was just doing her job, but it still feels good to save a man's life, especially at Christmastime.
