Clean Sweep event set
The St. Croix County Recycling Program will conduct an event to collect hazardous waste from farmers.
The upcoming Hazardous Waste Clean Sweep is on Friday, May 17, from 1 to 4 p.m. and Saturday, May 18, from 9 a.m. to noon at the County Highway Shop, 666 Highway 12 East, Hudson.
Households and farms with up to 500 pounds of waste are fee-exempt. Latex paint, motor oil, medications, automotive batteries and electronics will not be accepted.
Fluorescent bulbs and oil filters will be accepted for a fee. These fees range from 50 cent for bulbs under four feet, 75 cents for bulbs over four feet, and $2.50 for H.I.D light bulbs.
Fees for oil filters are $1 each.
A special collection for farms and small businesses will take place prior to the residential collection on Friday, May 17, from 9 a.m. to noon, by appointment only. Farms are encouraged to participate, but may be charged for waste over 500 pounds. Farms and businesses will need to fill out St. Croix County VSQG Business & Farm Chemical Inventory and must pre-register by May 14 by calling 715-531-1907.
Some waste materials that can be disposed of during the Clean Sweep include: herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, fumigants, rodenticides, animal health products, solvents, teat wash, wood preservatives, and lead based paints.
A County Tire Collection will be held on Saturday, June 1, at four sites: City of Hudson (Krattley Lane, North Hudson) 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Town of Hammond (Town Hall) 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Town of Richmond (Town Hall) 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and Town of Troy (Recycling Center) 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The price for car (up to 16") tires is $2 without rim or $4 with rim; truck (17" - 22") tires $4 without rim or $8 with rim; tractor tires $15; heavy equipment tires $20; and bicycle tires 50 cents.
