Community party set for Citizens Field Aug. 2
The third annual New Richmond "Get to Know your Neighbor Day" is Aug. 2 and the second annual Community Block Party will be held the same day.
According to Kristen Latzig, YMCA YOUth and Families Initiative coordinator, the Community Block Party is being offered "as another option if you don't want to have the traditional block party in your neighborhood."
As in years past, packets for neighborhood block parties may be picked up at the New Richmond Area YMCA. The packets are free and offer suggestions for activities and set-up for neighborhood block parties.
Last year's Community Block Party focused on the lighting of the fountain in the Mill Pond. This year the block party will be held at Citizens Field.
There will be an organized kickball tournament from noon to 6 p.m. for families and neighborhoods. According to Latzig, there is a $25 registration fee and only teams of eight or more may register. Call the YMCA at 243-0843 for more information.
A free family carnival will be held from 4-6 p.m. at Citizens Field and will include a dunk tank, a castle jumper, face painting, obstacle courses, gunny sack races, three-legged races, Bocce ball and music. There will be a concession stand for food purchases at the field as well as free root beer floats and popcorn.
From 6 p.m. until midnight, a battle of the bands is scheduled. Latzig said if anyone has a band interested in entering, the band committee is still looking for participants. The number to call for more information on the bands is 243-0843.
