Congregational church offers monthly 'Music and a Meal'

The Roberts Congregational United Church of Christ has long filled people's hearts with faith. Starting Jan. 20, UCC will be filling mouths with food and their ears with the sound of music, as it starts it's "Music and a Meal" program.

Starting on Thursday, Jan. 20, and continuing the third Thursday of every month, UCC will host friends and neighbors from central St. Croix County for a free meal and music, from local individuals, starting at 5:30 p.m.

Member Terry McKinley said, "We are delighted with our new church building, with its terrific acoustics for music, and we want to share it."

McKinley said the idea for "Music and a Meal" was actually a consolidation of two ideas.

"One, to provide a venue for musicians, students and others to share their talents and interests with the community. Two, to serve Central St. Croix County residents by providing a fun evening and free dinner meal," he said.

McKinley said the church is known for its very active and talented members, with a wide variety of backgrounds and interests so people should expect a "pretty lively group."

UCC says everyone's gifts and talents are welcome, "even if they're not music exactly."

UCC says whether someone sings a song, plays an instrument or tells a story, "It's all music to our ears."

"We hope people will share their talents and interests in a way that we get to know them better. We aren't necessarily looking for professionals -- just people who have something they'd like to share and maybe haven't found places to do it," McKinley said.
