CORRECTED: Brothers Texas Pit offers family atmosphere
Brothers Texas Pit stands out from other restaurants in New Richmond, according to its owners.
"It's something new, something not around here," said Chad Skaar, one of the two namesake "brothers."
The restaurant, 240 S. Knowles Ave., in New Richmond, opened last Friday. Hours will be from 11-1 a.m. daily, with dinner available until 10 p.m. Appetizers can be ordered until midnight.
Brothers Texas Pit is at the former Locker Room Bar location. The other namesake brother, Joe Skaar, was part-owner of that establishment and now owns this business.
Since the Locker Room closed three months ago, the building got a complete overhaul, Chad Skaar said.
"We wanted to make it very family oriented. That was our goal," he said. "We're family owned, family operated."
There's fresh paint on the walls, new wood floors and brand new booths. Historic photos of New Richmond are also hung around the walls.
The bar is lined with slate tile. At the center is a water feature - a waterfall streams straight down. A few arcade games and dart boards are also in the bar area.
The bathrooms are sink-less, Skaar said. Instead water flows from the countertops and disappears at the backsplash.
The building is completely smoke free.
Keeping with the theme of family owned, family operated, the Skaars' mom Mary Lundgren is the head cook.
Brothers Texas Pit employs 20 people, Skaar said. Half of them are full-time, he added.
The menu includes ribs, steaks, burgers and more. A special Texas Tikes menu is available for the kids.
"We have something for everyone here," Skaar said.
Dressings, sauces and salads are made fresh on site daily, as is their homemade beer batter, Skaar said. The meat, which is all purchased from Olson's Woodville Meats, is never frozen.
So far, after two soft openings, Skaar said the corn bread and tumbleweeds were some of the most popular items. Tumbleweeds are the Brothers Texas Pit version of onion straws, he said. Ribs and steaks are also popular.
Prices range from about $14 for a full rack of ribs and sides to about $6 for a basic burger.
"I'm excited to open the doors," Skaar said.
