The state Commerce Department is giving emergency grants to Vernon, Crawford, La Crosse, Richland, Green and Kenosha counties.

Two villages will also get funding - Gays Mills and Chaseburg.

The floods began last Aug. 18, when parts of southwest Wisconsin got up to a foot and a-half of rain in two days. It never stopped raining for the next two weeks, causing some rivers to remain over their banks well into September.

Fourteen counties received federal disaster aid.
