County offers dropoff for PC batteries
In light of the recent announcement by Dell of the recall of 4.1 million personal computer batteries, St. Croix County is reminding residents that the county collects all types of portable rechargeable batteries at the Planning and Zoning office at the Government Center, 1101 Carmichael Road, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday.
Batteries collected include nickel cadmium (Ni-Cd), nickel metal hydride (Ni-MH), lithium ion (Li-ion) and small sealed lead (Pb) batteries under 2 pounds. These batteries are commonly found in cordless power tools, cellular and cordless phones, laptop computers, camcorders, digital cameras, MP3 players and remote control toys.
Residents can also drop them off at an electronics collection Saturday, Sept. 9, at the New Richmond WITC campus from 9 a.m. to noon or ongoing during business hours at the St. Croix Electric Cooperative in Hammond (715 796-7000).
For more information on these collections or other recycling programs, contact Jennifer Havens, St. Croix County recycling specialist, at (715) 386-4675 or email@example.com.
