County seeks bids to design new nursing home
Long-delayed plans for a new St. Croix County nursing home in New Richmond moved ahead last week as the county began advertising for bids for architectural and engineering services.
The plan is to build a new 50-bed skilled nursing home, 40-bed assisted living facility and 10-bed dementia/ mental health crisis unit, remodeling and using as much of the existing nursing home as possible, said County Administrator Pat Thompson.
“We need to have an architect tell us whether or not the existing facility can be repurposed into the plan,” said Thompson.
The previous County Board chose building a new nursing home as its preferred option, but the current board needs to know what the facility will cost before it can decide to borrow and build, said Thompson. That decision would require approval by a two-thirds vote of the board.
The Administration Committee voted last week to recommend that the County Board amend this year’s budget to include $200,000 for architectural and engineering services. That resolution, which also requires a twothirds vote, will come to the board at its Aug. 5 meeting.
Prospective bidders are invited to a pre-proposal conference at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, in the nursing home lobby, 1445 N. Fourth St., New Richmond. At that time county representatives will discuss the project and lead a tour of the site.
Bids are due by 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11. Bidding documents are available for download on the county’s website: co.saint-croix.wi.us.
