Demullings run together at UMD
The two oldest of the Demulling sisters are back running together. In the fall of 2001, Abby Demulling was a senior on the New Richmond cross country team and her younger sister, Hannah, was a freshman with the Tigers.
They are now repeating that pattern, with the sisters as members of the University of Minnesota-Duluth women's cross country team.
This pattern was continued in the fall of 2004, when Hannah was a senior on the Tiger team, with their younger sister, Maggie, as a freshman on the team.
Abby is a co-captain for both the cross country and track teams at UMD this year.
"She has been a terrific athlete in our program. She ran 2:14 in the 800 last spring and was the 22nd best time in D2 NCAA, just missed making national meet," said UMD coach John Fulkrod.
Fulkrod is also impressed with the younger of the Demulling sisters.
"Hannah is going to be a great track athlete in our program in my opinion. She is doing all the right things this fall to set up a good track season and she has been in our top 12 for CC for most of the season even though her strength is the sprints," he said.
Fulkrod capped his comments by saying "They are fantastic young ladies to work with and have on the team."
In the Tori Neubauer Invitational at UW-La Crosse on Oct. 15, Abby was the fourth runner for the Bulldogs, who finished 17th among the 22 teams in the meet. Abby was 110th among the 353 runners, with a time of 24:47.
Hannah was the 264th finisher, with a time of 26:36.
Another New Richmond grad, Ayla Mitchell, was running for the University of Minnesota in this meet. Mitchell placed 47th, with a time of 23:16.
At the UW-Eau Claire Blugold Open on Sept. 30, the Demullings were the fifth and sixth runners for UMD. Abby finished 73rd in 25:57, with Hannah in 89th at 26:31.
Most recently, Abby was UMD's fifth runner as the Bulldog women placed fifth in the North Central Conference (NCC) Championships on Oct. 22. She placed 36th in the 6K race in 24:02.
