Dilley's Saints, Bernard's Ice Rams take third in Senior Shootout
Top Shelf Sports of Hastings, Minn. won the open over-21 division championship and Dakota County Lumber of Farmington, Minn. captured the 30-and-over division title at the 13th annual Western Wisconsin Shootout Senior Men's Hockey Classic at the New Richmond Sports Center on March 14-16.
Dakota County Lumber fought back from being down 5-3 in a seesaw battle against the St. Paul Park Place Hackers to win their first 30-and-over division championship 7-6. This was Dakota County's first title in four trips to the Shootout Classic.
Top Shelf Sports won the over-21 division championship after finishing as runner-up in two of the past four years. They defeated the 2007 division champions, The Clock Tower Spartans of Red Wing, 4-0. This was also Top Shelf Sports' first championship in seven trips to the Shootout.
Locally, the Bernard's Ice Rams won the third place title in the open over-21 division with a 4-1 victory over the Up & Coming Scrappers from Anderson Air of Burnsville, Minn.
Dilley's Saints won third place in the 30-and-over division title with a 8-2 victory over 2007 champion DePaul Lettering.
Tournament director Chuck Hammer said that the tournament showcases the best in senior men's hockey each year. The New Richmond Hockey Association hosts this classic and it is a great fundraiser for New Richmond hockey and the City of New Richmond.
