As of March 3, Somerset’s canine and feline populations have a new salon to call their own.

All Breed Dog Grooming of New Richmond owner and groomer Stephanie Arredondo has opened a second location at the Animal Luv Inn southwest of Somerset off County Road V at 1584 32nd St. where Arredondo is renting a small space from the dog boarding facility.

“We kind of opened it by chance, actually,” Arredondo said as she cuddled a Pomeranian/Shih tzu/Bichon mix named Mimi. “My husband saw the space was for rent, and here we are.”

Arredondo is renting the space formerly occupied by Top Tails Pet Grooming. While her business is a completely new, different one from Top Tails, she did keep the same phone number Top Tails had (715-247-DOGS).

Arredondo has had a love of animals her entire life, as has Laura Williams, a groomer from the New Richmond salon who will be the primary groomer at the Somerset location.

“Being a vet is too gory,” Arredondo said. “This is much more fun and we get to be creative.”

Arredondo bought All Breed Dog Grooming eight years ago. It was originally located at her home, but two years ago she opened the New Richmond location at 1656 Dorset Lane.

Since the Somerset space is small, the salon will be open by appointment only. Customers will pick up their animals once their grooming sessions are complete. Arredondo may have set hours once the Somerset clientele is built up.

Williams and Arredondo said the salon will offer a range of services, for cats as well as dogs. Those services include bathing, haircuts, trimming and filing nails, ear cleaning, shedding treatments, gentle massage and hair/fur coloring.

They also plan to offer animal spa packages, which will include sugar and salt scrubs and milk wraps. They emphasize providing custom care for each individual dog, plus “lots of kisses.”

Arredondo recommends grooming dogs every eight to 12 weeks, depending on their breed.

“It keeps their coat healthy, especially if they’re an outdoor dog, they still need grooming,” Arredondo said.

Williams said when she was young, people maybe bathed their dogs once a year. She has been grooming dogs for more than 30 years.

The ladies’ love of animals spreads beyond their work into their home lives. Arredondo has six dogs and fosters one more. Williams has three dogs.
