According to Sarah Kreft, a Jon-De Farm employee and volunteer at Farm-City Day, this will be the 31st year of the event.

Attendees will enjoy guided dairy and crop tours, antique machinery, pony rides, music and food from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Kreft said that there will be no charge for the event, thanks to the many farmers and businesses that donate food, time and funding for the event.

"It's always free," Kreft said. "We have tons of people that volunteer year after year."

Kreft said Farm-City Day provides a chance for kids and adults who do not have much experience with agriculture to see what farming is like.

"Most people nowadays have less access to agriculture and farms," Kreft said. "This is a good opportunity to see what farms are like today."

Todd Doornink, one of the owners of Jon-De Farm, said the farm is a larger dairy, so that makes it unique in comparison to other farms in the area.

"We have about 1,500 cows that we're milking," Doornink said.

According to Kreft, Farm-City Day continues to be a family-oriented event and she enjoys seeing the community come together each year.

"You see people that have been coming year after year," Kreft said. "They brought their kids and now they're bringing their grandkids."

Jon-De Farm is located south of Baldwin at 2061 30th Ave., just west of Highway 63.

2012 also marks Jon-De Farm's 100th anniversary. The farm was established in 1912 by John H. and Willamina Doornink.

Currently, the farm is operated by Doornink, a fourth-generation owner who heads the dairy operations and his father, Dean Doornink, who is in charge of the financial and crop production decisions.
