Eau Claire consumer protection agency closes in December
Wisconsin's consumer protection agency will close three regional offices in December.
Budget cuts are forcing the shutdowns in Green Bay, Eau Claire and Wauwatosa.
Most of the 20 employees will move to the department's main office in Madison, but six will be laid off. Consumer protection spokesman Randy Romanski says more people are filing complaints on-line instead of going to a regional office.
He said those places used to deal primarily with concerns involving local businesses in their areas.
But now, 60 percent of the consumer agency's complaints involve national or international concerns.
