Eau Claire man given choice between jail and wearing sign saying he was stupid
An Eau Claire man convicted of damaging a city-owned gate can either spend 20 days in jail or wear a sign for a day saying, "I was stupid."
Shane McQuillan, 22, pleaded guilty to driving into the front gate at Eau Claire's sewage plant in March. He was drinking at the time and the arresting officer quoted him as saying he was "just being stupid."
Circuit Judge Paul Lenz gave McQuillan the option of jail time, or wearing the sign in front of the treatment plant for a full work day, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
There was no immediate word on what McQuillan would choose.
