EDITORIAL: Celebrate our home sweet home
When it comes to vacation time, there's no place like home.
According to a the annual "Best of the Midwest" survey conducted by the AAA Midwest Traveler magazine, Wisconsin is the best Midwest state to spend one's vacation.
Of course, we already knew that. But it's always good to be reminded that the grass isn't always greener across our various borders.
Whether you and your family spend time along the shores of Lake Superior, in picturesque Door County, at the water parks of Wisconsin Dells, by the lakes around Hayward or along State Street in Madison, there are a wide variety of options for people to enjoy their time away from their hectic routines.
Vacationers who choose Wisconsin during any of the four seasons have much to choose from - indoor and outdoor waterparks, train excursions, bike trails, canoe trips, theaters, shopping malls, fishing, sporting events, food and wine tours, and great nightlife venues.
For those of us who live here, a vacation or stay-cation can be a great decision for a family. By staying close to home, the vacation dollar is stretched as little money is needed for gas or for additional accommodations on the way to a far-off destination.
And, the more Wisconsites spend on vacation here, the more our state's economy benefits as the money flows through local businesses and into our communities.
Think about it when you plan your next getaway.
