Fall practices begin next week

Practices for fall high school sports can begin for several of the sports next week. Here is a rundown of the opening practice details for the New Richmond, Somerset and St. Croix Central varsity teams.

New Richmond

Football: New coach Joe Hutter will have the team report at 7:30 a.m. next Monday for the issuance of equipment.

The Tigers will then hold two-a-day practices from 7:30-11:30 a.m. on Tuesday through Thursday. On Friday, Aug. 13, the team will practice at 3:30 p.m., which will be followed by the annual team picnic.

The team will get back into the two-a-day practices the following week from Monday through Thursday. On Friday, Aug. 20, the Tigers will compete in a scrimmage at Chippewa Falls.

Volleyball: New Tiger coach Becky Ahlbrecht will have the team report for practice on Monday, Aug. 16. Practices the first two days will be from 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m.

Cross Country: The Tiger cross country teams will hold their first practice on Monday, Aug. 16.

Girls Tennis: The Tiger tennis team will hold a team meeting on Monday from 2-5 p.m. at the New Richmond High School cafeteria for team-building activities.

The team's first practice will be held next Tuesday. The team's practices will be held from 4-6 p.m. each day under coach Teresa Kvam.

Girls Golf: The New Richmond girls golf team will hold its team meeting this Friday at 8 a.m. The Tigers will then begin practice next Monday at 7:30 a.m at The Links. Coach Neal Ziller is asking that the girls have their emergency card, physical card, athletic code and athletic fee ready when they come to the team meeting on Friday.

Somerset

Football: Somerset's football team will begin next Monday with a team meeting at 8 a.m., followed by equipment being issued to the players.

The first week of practices will go with this schedule: players in grades 10-12 will practice from 8-10:45 a.m. and 6-8:30 p.m. The freshman team will practice daily from 10:30 a.m.-noon.

Volleyball: Coach Sara Eichten will have all players in grades 9-12 report for practices on Monday, Aug. 16. The practice schedule for that week is from 8-10:30 a.m. and noon-2 p.m. each day.

Cross Country: The Spartan runners will practice for the first time at the high school on Wednesday, Aug. 18 from 3-5 p.m. Future practice times will be set at that practice.

Girls Golf: Coach Bill Powers said the first practice for the golf team will be next Monday at Bristol Ridge Golf Club. The practice will begin at 7:30 a.m. for any girls in grades 9-12 who are interested. Anyone with questions on the practice schedule can contact him at 549-5545.

St. Croix Central

Football: The Panthers will be holding their team meeting and handing out equipment next Monday. Seniors and juniors report from 3-3:30 p.m. Monday with freshmen and sophomores reporting from 3:30-4 p.m. A team meeting will follow. Practice starts next Tuesday. From Tuesday through Thursday the freshmen will practice from 1-3 p.m. with the varsity practicing from 3-6 p.m.

Volleyball: Coach Amanda Webb will have the Panthers start practicing on Monday, Aug. 16. From Monday to Thursday that week the Panthers will practice from 8-10 a.m. and 4-6:30 p.m.

Cross Country: Central's cross country team starts practice on Monday, Aug. 16 at 10 a.m. at St. Croix Central High School.

Girls Golf: The Panther golf team begins practice at 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Hammond Golf Club. The Panthers will practice at that time each weekday the first two weeks, unless there are meets scheduled.
