With football getting underway this week, the rest of the high school fall sports will begin their seasons during the next two weeks. Here are the announcements for the opening practices for the sports that open their seasons in the next two weeks.
New Richmond: The first practice for the Tigers will take place at the next Monday New Richmond Golf Club driving range, starting at 7:30 a.m. Coach Neal Ziller will have the Tigers start their first several practices at the driving range and complete them by playing nine holes at The Links course.
Somerset: The Somerset golfers will meet at Bristol Ridge Golf Club on Monday for their first practice. The first practice will run from 7:30-9:30 a.m. Any girls interested in joining the team should contact coach Bill Powers at (715) 497-7419.
St. Croix Central: The Panthers will hold their first practice under new coach Chance Langeness next Monday. The Panthers will practice from 8-10 a.m. at the Hammond Golf Course for the first few days of their season.
New Richmond: The Tigers team meeting will be Monday from 3–6 p.m. at the high school. The team’s first practice starts Tuesday from 6–8:30 a.m.
New Richmond: Coach Pete Melloy has the Tigers practicing twice a day, starting next Monday. The first practice will run from 8-9:30 a.m. The second half of the day’s work will run from noon-2 p.m. They will follow that schedule for the first week, before scrimmaging at North St. Paul on Saturday, Aug. 16. The Tigers will play their annual Alumni Game on Monday, Aug. 18, on the varsity field at 5:30 p.m.
Somerset: The Spartans will begin their fall practices next Monday. They will start the week with two-a-day practices. The morning session will run from 9-11:30 a.m. That will be followed by a 1-3 p.m. session in the afternoon.
New Richmond: Coach Beth Kelly is expecting an even larger number of runners than last year when the Tigers start practice on Monday, Aug. 18. She said the team could have more than 80 runners competing this season. Practices will be twice-a-day for the first week, from 7-9 a.m., and from 5-7 p.m. Any NRHS students interested in joining the team can contact Kelly at firstname.lastname@example.org or 715-977-0271.
Somerset: New Spartan coach Abby Christensen will be hold the team’s first practice on Monday, Aug. 18, from 5-7 p.m. The Spartans will practice in that time span each day for the first week of the season. St. Croix Central: The Panther cross country team is scheduled to practice for the first time this season on Monday, Aug. 18. Runners are to meet at the high school at 8 a.m. that day for the first practice.
New Richmond: The Tigers will get tested right away under second-year coach Missi Whittington. The Tigers open practice on Monday, Aug. 18. Tryouts for the team will be held the first two days next week. The team will practice from 7:30 a.m.-noon those days as their tryouts. The first competition for the Tigers will be in the annual Amery scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 23.
Somerset: The Spartans begin their season with practices on Monday, Aug. 18. The team will have two-a-day practices for the first four days of that week. The morning session will run from 8:30-11 a.m. After a short break, the Spartans will practice again from 12:30-2 p.m. The Spartans are scheduled to scrimmage at Clayton on Saturday, Aug. 23.
St. Croix Central: The Panthers begin their 2014 season under new coach Mindy Widiker on Monday, Aug. 18. The Panthers are slated to practice each day that week from 4-8 p.m. Anyone with questions can contact Coach Widiker at firstname.lastname@example.org.
