The group of college students take one week of their holiday break to perform workshops and concerts at several Wisconsin schools. This year, the group decided to include New Richmond in its tour because of member Peter Elkin, a 2006 graduate of New Richmond High School.

Elkin auditioned for and joined the group a year ago as a tenor 2 and vocal percussionist. The other 5E members are: Nels Urtel from Mankato, Minn.; Tony Meehl of Ashwaubenon; Joe Holton from Port Washington; Frank Moran from Chippewa Falls; and Alex Collie from Menomone. Tim Mattson is also traveling with Fifth Element during this tour as the newest member, soon to be replacing Meehl who will graduate in the spring.

Fifth Element, which was founded in 1998, recently performed at the a capella throwdown in Moorehead, Minn. where Nels Urtel was awarded best solo.

The group also performs at various UW-Eau Claire functions as well as putting on two of their own concerts each year in Eau Claire. A highlight this past summer was to be chosen to perform at a rally in Eau Claire for then presidential candidate Barack Obama.

The group recently released a new CD titled "Quintessence." Copies will be available for purchase at Tuesday's concert.
