Fine Arts Festival set for Thursday at SMS
The annual Somerset Fine Arts Festival will be held this Thursday.
It will take place in the Somerset Middle School between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. The festival will feature all of the music performing groups in the school district, an art show of student art work, and handbell and African drumming demonstrations by students from the general music classes. Visitors will be able to visit four different sites that evening that will feature different aspects of the school's fine arts - instrumental music, vocal music, general music and visual arts.
Vocal performing groups will include the high school choir, the high school vocal ensemble "Dynamics," the seventh and eighth grade choir, the sixth grade choir and the fifth grade choir. These groups will perform in the "burgundy room" by the seventh and eighth grade classrooms.
Instrumental performing groups will include the seventh and eighth grade concert band, the fifth grade band, the sixth grade band, the seventh and eighth grade jazz band, the high school jazz band and the high school concert band. These groups will perform in the gymnasium.
General music class demonstrations of handbells and African drums will be presented by fifth and sixth grade volunteers in the choir room.
An art display of student art work from grades 5-12 will take place in the commons area. Art works of different mediums - painting, pencil, ceramics, sculptures of various materials and jewelry will be exhibited. Demonstrations of using the pottery wheel, painting, Photoshop (computer graphics) are also planned.
March the national Music In Our Schools Month and School Art Month. The Fine Arts Festival is Somerset's way of celebrating the fine arts programs in our schools. Plan on attending to experience what is happening in Somerset schools.
